Control Resonant Will Be Full of Lore, Remedy Promises

Remedy assures fans that Control Resonant will be packed with lore despite combat-heavy trailers, asking for trust until release.

Control Resonant Will Be Full of Lore, Remedy Promises

Are you worried that Control Resonant's combat-heavy trailers mean the story is taking a backseat? Fear not, Remedy has your back — and your lore fix.

The developer insists that the lack of story in promotional footage is a deliberate choice, not a reflection of the game's content. Senior communications manager Miika Huttunen explains that combat is easier to show without spoiling surprises, while the narrative is being kept under wraps until launch. "There's lots of weird stuff to come," he teases, "plenty of twists and turns and surprises… things to discover. We're asking fans to trust us—we're Remedy."

So what can you expect? Dialogue with NPCs, collectibles, and environmental clues will all piece together a new story. FBC documents and written materials from before the Hiss invasion are scattered throughout the world, rewarding exploration. The world itself is as carefully crafted as the original, with shortcuts, subtle clues, and NPC interactions that deepen your understanding.

Your choices in dialogue will also matter, subtly altering how other characters react, varying side quests, and shaping your own personality. The main story remains largely linear with one distinct ending — but knowing Remedy, it's one you won't see coming. The combat, as seen in the Gamescom demo, is fluid and aggressive, with Dylan using the shapeshifting Aberrant weapon and paranatural abilities to survive. There's no parry mechanic, so aggression is key, and you'll need to kill to heal.

Between battles, you can retreat to The Gap, a liminal space for practice, loadout changes, and upgrades. But beware: returning to the real world means enemies have leveled up with you. The demo already showed Dylan seeking out the Mold in a transformed Manhattan, with gravity shifts and grotesque foes, hinting at a deep mystery.

It's clear that Control Resonant is aiming to deliver both thrilling combat and a rich narrative. Are you ready to trust Remedy and uncover the secrets when it launches? What do you think — will you be picking this up?
