Ever wished you could keep chatting with your squad even when you're not in the same game? Well, Epic Games has heard your prayers. They've just announced Epic Parties, a new voice chat service that's set to change the way you hang out with friends online.
Imagine this: you're on your phone, start a voice party, and ring up your buddy who's deep into a Fortnite match on their PlayStation. Then, when you get back to your desk, you seamlessly transfer that call to your PC—no dropped connections, no awkward goodbyes. That's the magic of Epic Parties.
But here's the kicker: you can be in a voice call through the Epic PC Launcher while playing completely different games from your Epic library. So, if you're into a solo RPG and your friend is grinding in Rocket League, you can still chat and hang out. It's like having a virtual living room where you can all be together, even if you're not playing the same thing.
And if you all decide to jump into Fortnite together, Epic Parties makes it even easier. The game will automatically drop you all into the same lobby—no more juggling invites or party codes. It's all about seamless connection.
This is Epic's direct challenge to Discord, which has been the go-to for gamers for years. But Epic is betting on its built-in alternative, which lets you carry your social list, voice channels, and digital avatar across platforms—iOS, Android, PC, and console. And they're not stopping there. Epic has hinted that these voice and avatar systems will be integrated into Unreal Engine 6, offering the tools to other developers down the line.
For now, Epic Parties is rolling out to Fortnite, with Rocket League getting it next year. And with Epic's recent stats—over $1 billion spent in the store in 2025 and a record 78 million monthly active users on PC—it's clear they're serious about making their ecosystem the place to be.
So, will you be ditching Discord for Epic Parties? Or do you think Discord still has the edge? Let us know in the comments!
