Well, this is one way to make Detroit: Become Human even more unsettling. A player recently forced DLSS 5 into the game, and the results are... something. Instead of cleaner, sharper visuals, the androids' faces got stretched, warped, and smeared into pixelated nightmare fuel. Think less "advanced upscaling" and more "haunted house mirror."
For those who don't know, DLSS is Nvidia's super resolution tech, normally used to boost image quality while keeping performance smooth. But here, it didn't exactly play nice. The character faces hit a full-on uncanny valley meltdown — features twisted, skin textures scrambled, and the whole thing looking way creepier than intended.
One theory floating around is that multiple shader filters got stacked on top of each other, combined with bad scaling parameters. Since the game engine doesn't officially support this kind of injection, the geometry kept warping over and over instead of getting sharper. Basically, the algorithm was trying to rebuild a face but had no idea what a face should look like.
The comments section, as you'd expect, went straight for the jokes. "AI turned the androids into real humans," one player cracked. Others just renamed the game "Detroit: Become Ghost." Honestly? Fair.
More technical folks pointed out that DLSS 5's reconstruction pipeline relies on data like motion vectors from the game engine. When you inject it externally into an older game, and that input info is wrong or missing, you get weird reconstruction artifacts. That said, some are willing to cut the tool some slack since it's still early days — future updates might fix compatibility.
Important caveat here: this was an unofficial, external injection attempt. It does not reflect how Nvidia's official DLSS 5 actually performs in supported games. So don't panic and assume every game is about to turn into a horror show.
Still, it's a fun reminder that cutting-edge tech doesn't always play nice with older titles. Have you tried messing around with DLSS injections yourself? Or are you waiting for official support before letting AI anywhere near your favorite characters' faces? Drop your thoughts below.
