Ready to pick up the Vampire Killer again? You don't have to wait until October — Konami has opened a free demo for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, and it's downloadable right now.
Here's the part that actually matters: your demo progress carries over into the full game. So you can run through the prologue, get your head around the combat, and keep everything you earned when the real thing arrives. No throwaway save file, no starting over from zero.
The story heads to Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Trevor Belmont — the man who already put Dracula down once — walks into a city crawling with monsters, and this time his daughter, Rose Belmont, comes with him. Rose is the one you'll follow as she gets pulled into the conspiracy lurking behind the whole disaster.
Combat still leans on the series' signature whip, but that whip does a lot more than hit things now. You can swing around stages at high speed, which makes traversal and exploration feel like part of the fun rather than just a way to get from one fight to the next. On top of that, there are seven weapon categories plus magic items that produce different offensive and defensive effects, so you can put together a playstyle that suits you.
Then there's Arcana, the system tied into boss fights. Series regulars like Death, Medusa and Camilla are back, joined by new characters including Joan of Arc. Defeat them as Rose and they get sealed into tarot cards as Arcana, handing you new magic and special abilities — which in turn opens up more of the map and more ways to fight.
Before you hit download, check your storage. On PS5 the demo needs roughly 6GB, on Xbox Series X|S around 5GB and on Steam about 4GB — and all three run at 60fps. The Switch version is the smallest at roughly 3GB, but it runs at 30fps. The demo supports Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, Korean and more, so you can pick your language right away.
The full game arrives on October 15, 2026 for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the demo is live on all four platforms today.
So — smooth 60fps on console and PC, or the smaller 3GB download on Switch? Which platform are you grabbing the demo on, and are you carrying that save all the way to launch? Let us know.
