CD Projekt's Project Hadar Finally Leaves Concept Stage

Ever wonder what a brand-new world from the minds behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 would look like? Well, CD Projekt Red just took a big step toward making that a reality. The studio has officially wrapped up the "world vision" stage for its mysterious new IP, Project Hadar, and work on the actual game has begun. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski shared the news, calling it "our biggest undertaking to date, taking us several years." But before you get too excited, he clarified that the game is "not yet in pre-production." So, we're still a long way off from playing it.

So, what do we know about Project Hadar? Not much, but we do know it's an open-world RPG. A job advert from June teased an "immersive game in the Hadar world, creating an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers." That's right—open-world confirmed! And it's being designed first and foremost to support a sprawling RPG, which is exactly what you'd expect from CDPR. The team working on Hadar is already over 30 strong, with plans to hire up to 50 developers by the end of this year. So they're definitely ramping up.

But let's not forget everything else CD Projekt Red has on its plate. The Witcher 4 is currently in development and due out in 2028. Before that, a third major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past, is scheduled for release next year. Developed by Fool's Theory—a team of former CDPR developers—it aims to bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and the next game, which stars Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri. After The Witcher 4, we'll get Cyberpunk 2, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077. And CDPR intends to release a new Witcher trilogy within six years. If The Witcher 4 hits 2028, we could see The Witcher 5 in 2031 and The Witcher 6 in 2034. Where does Hadar fit in? Your guess is as good as ours.

We still know nothing about Project Hadar's world or setting, but it's exciting to think about what the studio will come up with. Given their track record with rich, narrative-driven RPGs, it's sure to be something special. And while we wait, there's plenty of other CDPR content to enjoy. The next series of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime is coming to Netflix on October 20. Plus, The Witcher 3 just got a remaster on consoles and PC, which had some visual hiccups (looking at you, heavy bloom), but CDPR fixed them quickly.

So, what do you think? Are you excited to see what CD Projekt Red has in store with Project Hadar? Or are you more focused on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2? Let us know in the comments!
