007 First Light Switch 2 Delayed to 2027

Did you pre-order 007 First Light for your Switch 2? Well, you might want to sit down for this one. IO Interactive has confirmed that the Switch 2 edition has been delayed yet again. It's now scheduled to launch in March 2027. That's a long wait, especially if you were hoping to play it this year.

The studio explained the delay in a notice, saying it wants "to ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect." They added that the extra time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game. It's a bummer, but at least they're being upfront about it.

If you were lucky enough to attend Gamescom recently, you might have already tried the Switch 2 version. IO said it was "thrilled by the positive feedback" from that demo. And if you're heading to Tokyo Game Show this week, you can check out the same demo there. So the game is playable and looking good—it just needs more time in the oven.

This isn't the first delay for the Switch 2 version. It was originally supposed to launch alongside the console and PC editions back in May. Then it got pushed to Summer 2026. But with summer officially ending on September 22 and no release date in sight, another delay wasn't exactly shocking. IO boss Hakan Abrak even said back in May that the game needed "a bit more time to get it where we want it to be." At that point, they were targeting late summer, but now we're looking at 2027.

Abrak told The Game Business, "We just want to make sure it's good as it can be. I don't want to hear it wasn't a good version." That's a fair point—nobody wants a buggy port. And given that First Light has already sold over 4 million copies and earned rave reviews, expectations are high. All signs point to a sequel, though nothing official has been announced yet.
