What Are You Playing This Weekend? Our Missing Editor Edition

Ever fired up a game you were hyped about for months, only to feel that sinking disappointment halfway through? You're not alone, and that's exactly the kind of thing we're unpacking in this week's open thread.

Welcome back to our weekly community hangout, where we talk about what we're actually playing this weekend and toss out a bonus question for everyone to chew on. This edition comes with a small wrinkle: Eliot is missing. So if you were hoping for his usual take, you'll have to make do with the rest of us.

The main event, as always, is MMOs. What are you diving into this weekend? Maybe you're grinding dailies in your comfort MMO, maybe you've finally talked a friend into trying that free-to-play title, or maybe you're just logging in to hang out in a guild chat. Whatever it is, this is the place to share it.

Then there's the bonus question, and it's a fun one: what movies, books, or games were hyped up to the moon and ended up being total letdowns? We've all got at least one. The trailer that looked incredible. The novel everyone swore was a masterpiece. The game with the enormous marketing budget that somehow felt hollow the moment you got your hands on it.

That's the beauty of these open threads. You get to compare notes with other players, find out what everyone's actually playing, and maybe save yourself from a disappointing purchase or two. It's also a nice reminder that the community around games is half the fun.

So jump into the comments and tell us your weekend lineup and your biggest hype-to-letdown story. What are you playing this weekend, and which hyped-up release burned you the hardest?
