Street Fighter Movie Sneaks in Epic Evo Moment 37 Nod

Did you hear that? The Street Fighter movie is paying tribute to the most legendary moment in fighting game history. And it's doing it in the coolest way possible.

FGC icon Justin Wong will make a cameo in the film, sporting a '37' tattoo. That's a direct nod to Evo Moment 37, the 2004 tournament match where Wong's Chun-Li faced off against Daigo Umehara's Ken. If you haven't seen it, you've definitely heard of it: Daigo, with a sliver of health left, parried all 15 hits of Chun-Li's Super, then countered for an impossible win. The clip has racked up hundreds of millions of views and became a defining moment for the fighting game community.

Wong revealed the cameo on his YouTube channel, explaining that Capcom reached out to him for a small role. In the movie, he plays a prisoner who commentates on a fight. But that's not all—he also teased that the film will include references from all six mainline Street Fighter games. So keep your eyes peeled, because there will be Easter eggs everywhere.

The dedication to authenticity doesn't stop there. Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li, recently shared just how far she went to nail the role. She told Empire magazine that she downloaded every version of Street Fighter onto a PS5 and recorded all of Chun-Li's moves in slow-mo on her phone to study them. "Chun-Li is all kicks," she said, so she dove into Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and wushu training—two hours a day. She even bulked up, eating 12 eggs daily and having meals every two hours. The result? Her thighs grew by six-and-a-half centimeters each by the end of shooting. Talk about commitment.

With this level of love for the source material, it's safe to say the Street Fighter movie is shaping up to be a treat for fans. It hits theaters on October 16, so mark your calendars. And if you're curious about what else is coming out around then, there are plenty of other big releases on the horizon, like Avengers: Doomsday.

So, what do you think? Are you hyped to see Evo Moment 37 honored on the big screen? Will you be catching Street Fighter in theaters this October? Let us know in the comments!
