Ever feel like the world is just too heavy lately? With AI, layoffs, and political chaos everywhere, sometimes you just need to escape to a cozy virtual world. That's exactly why I'm obsessed with Humblets, a new indie game that's taking Kickstarter by storm.
Picture this: The Lord of the Rings meets Animal Crossing. That's how developer Berry Bite describes it, and after watching every gameplay video I could find, I'm completely sold. The game has more than $135,000 in crowdfunding at the time of writing, and it's easy to see why.
Humblets is packed with features that cozy gamers dream about. You can build like in Minecraft, cook and fish like in Animal Crossing, collect and battle with cards, and even glide and cook at campfires like in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Plus, there's a deep customization system that lets you personalize your avatar, your mobile campsite, your tent, and even your adorable pet companion. You get assigned a pet via a personality test, and they help you find and collect resources as you explore.
But what really sets Humblets apart is its commitment to human creativity. "We don't use AI!" the developer proudly states. "Every part of our indie game is hand-made," says Berry Bite. "And we commission human artists for every single card. We'd rather support real passion than prompt a machine." That's a refreshing stance in today's gaming landscape, and it's clearly resonating with backers.
The game promises "relaxed exploration, collection, and crafting" in a world inspired by Lord of the Rings and D&D. There's a lot going on, but from what I've seen, it all comes together in a miraculously cohesive package. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the procedurally generated world. I'm generally a proc-gen skeptic, especially for cozy games where I prefer hand-crafted spaces. Berry Bite says the proc-gen world is mixed with "hand-crafted landmarks," but I'd still rather have everything be handmade. That said, everything else about Humblets has created enough goodwill for me that I'm happy to look past it.
Humblets has an estimated alpha delivery date of October 2027, and it's set to fully launch on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X. If you're looking for a new cozy obsession, this might be it. Will you be backing Humblets on Kickstarter? Let us know in the comments!
