Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Remake Rumored After Metal Band's Onstage Claim

Did you hear the one about the industrial metal band that might have leaked a beloved RPG remake? That's the wild rumor making the rounds after a Reddit user reported something unexpected at a Genitorturers concert.

User Few_Interview8222 on the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines subreddit shared that during a Genitorturers show in Brooklyn, New York, the band supposedly told the crowd that a VtMB remake is in the works. The band did play at Brooklyn's The Meadows on October 15 as part of their "Live + Lewd Tour," so the timing and location line up. However, no other accounts of this claim have surfaced, and we've reached out to both rights-holder Activision and the band's representation for comment. So take this one with a grain of salt—or a vial of blood.

Why would a metal band from Orlando, formed in 1986, have insider info on a cult classic RPG? Well, Bloodlines featured licensed tracks from metal bands, including Genitorturers' own "Lecher Bitch," which served as the theme for The Last Round, a downtown LA dive bar frequented by the Anarch faction. So there's a connection, even if it's a bit tangential.

Of course, there's a chance this is all a big misunderstanding. Some Redditors speculate the band might have been referring to last year's Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, which is a sequel, not a remake. A concertgoer could have misheard, or the band might have fumbled the details. It's the kind of mix-up that happens when artists have a peripheral awareness of a fanbase they picked up over the years.

But what if they're right? That would be pretty exciting—depending on who's behind it. These days, many fans are wary of remasters not handled by Nightdive Studios, given recent missteps like the Shogun 2 debacle and the fate of Deus Ex Remastered. Bloodlines is a janky PC gem, and Nightdive is one of the few studios trusted to do it justice. Ideally, they'd also bring on legendary modder Werner "Wesp5" Spahl, whose unofficial patch has kept the game alive. A full remake would face the challenge of matching the unique mood and look Troika originally created.

Why should you care? Bloodlines is an incredible RPG, often described as a missing link between 2D Fallout and New Vegas. It offers open-ended design and reactivity in 3D for the first time, with a gothic noir version of Los Angeles that's one of the coolest worlds in gaming. You can grab it on Steam or GOG for $20, and it's frequently on sale.

Even if this rumor turns out to be nothing, it's still a neat little incident—Genitorturers shouting out an obscure, beloved RPG 22 years later, and maybe getting a few genre nerds a little too excited. What do you think? Will you be picking up a Bloodlines remake if it's real?
