Valheim 1.0 Mods: Best Picks for Crafting, Building, and QoL

Are you diving back into Valheim after the 1.0 launch and wondering which mods are actually worth your time? You're not alone. The modding scene bounced back quickly, and there are plenty of new fan-made features to tinker with. I'm still digging through the sea of new creations, but here are some of the best Valheim mods I've found so far—plus advice on mod managers and required mods.

First, the eternal dilemma: which mod manager do you use? I've been using Gale Mod Manager since it works with both Thunderstore and Hexium downloads. If you're already using Thunderstore, that's fine for one site, but Gale is lightweight with extended compatibility. R2ModMan is another option. As for required mods, most Valheim mods need BepInEx, and many also require Jotunn. Install BepInEx first, then Jotunn, and launch Valheim before adding more mods to troubleshoot the basics. Drag and drop BepInExPack_Valheim into your Valheim directory, then extract Jotunn to your BepInEx plugins folder.

Now, the best gameplay mods. ValheimPlus (Fork) by Grantapher is packed with toggleable options and is a community-sourced fix after the original modder stopped updating. More World Locations AIO by Warpalicious adds 188 custom locations, shipping ports, more NPCs, and random shrines that bestow buffs. TheGreatestPortal by DeathMonger lets you build one portal that provides a list of all portals you've built, saving base space. PlantEverything by Advize adds berry bushes and mushrooms to the cultivator—perfect for a cute garden.

For building and furniture, PlantEasily by Advize provides a grid for perfect planting distance and random rotation to avoid uncanny symmetry. PlanBuild by Mathias Decrock is my favorite: it lets you construct blueprints without materials, then save, relocate, and build later. Floors Stairs Ladders Are Roofs by TastyChickenLegs eliminates water damage on exposed roof pieces. OdinsFoodBarrels by OdinPlus adds functional decorative barrels for your Viking kitchen.

Quality-of-life mods are essential. AzuCraftyBoxes by Azumatt lets you craft directly from chests with configurable limits to avoid wasting rare resources. Quick Stack Store Restock by Goldenrevolver adds one-button commands for quick stack, restock, and store all. Workbenches+ by Morda adds categories, sorting, and filtering by biome. MultiUserChest by MSchmoecker allows multiple players to access one chest at a time, reducing waiting.
