Ever dreamed of playing GTA 6 on a Nintendo console? You're not alone. With the Switch 2 bringing more third-party powerhouses like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, fans are wondering if Rockstar's next blockbuster could make the jump. Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard recently addressed that very question, and her answer was... diplomatic.
"That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time," Pritchard told Variety when asked about GTA 6 on Switch 2. So basically, don't hold your breath for an official confirmation just yet. But hey, at least it's not a flat-out no.
The Switch 2 is a beast compared to its predecessor. It can handle games like Cyberpunk 2077 and the recent Witcher 3 remaster, so theoretically, GTA 6 isn't out of the question. After all, the game is coming to the less powerful Xbox Series S next month. If it can run there, why not on Nintendo's new hardware? Rockstar already has Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, and L.A. Noire on Switch, so there's a relationship there. But they haven't even announced Red Dead Redemption 2 for Switch, let alone GTA 6.
Pritchard also touched on Nintendo's broader philosophy: "We have historically said that Nintendo is for ages 5 to 95, and that continues to be true. We want to provide a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system, and that's really important for us." That suggests Nintendo is open to a wide range of content, but ultimately, it's up to the publishers.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has its own heavy hitter lined up. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on November 5, just two weeks before GTA 6 hits shelves. That's a bold move, but Nintendo knows its fans are loyal. A recent SNL skit even parodied the double-bill, calling it video games' Barbenheimer. It's shaping up to be an epic end to a fantastic year in gaming, with titles like Big Walk, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, 007: First Light, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Wave already making waves.
So, will Rockstar work its magic and squeeze GTA 6 onto Switch 2? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure: playing GTA 6 on the loo would be a dream come true for many. What do you think? Would you double-dip for a portable version? Let us know in the comments!
