Ready to jack back into Night City? CD Projekt Red has just announced Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, and it's timed perfectly with the second season of the anime spin-off, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The update goes live on October 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it's bringing some fresh chrome to the game.
So what's in the update? According to CD Projekt Red's social media post, you can expect "new items and features" inspired by Edgerunners Season 2. They're specifically talking cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle—and more. That's right, you'll soon be able to dual-wield your way through Night City's mean streets. If you're as hyped as we are, you can tune in on Wednesday for a livestream preview of Update 2.5 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.
Even Cyberpunk 2 associate game director Pawel Sasko is pumped. He posted that he's "so f***ing hyped" to show people what the studio has been working on, which suggests there's some substantial content to look forward to. So maybe clear your schedule for that livestream.
This update is just the latest in a long line of post-launch support for Cyberpunk 2077. Remember the disastrous launch? Well, CD Projekt Red has come a long way since then, with numerous patches that improved the game tremendously. They've also released several free updates, the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion, and a PS5 Pro patch that makes the game look better than ever on Sony's beefy console. It's been a real redemption arc.
An Edgerunners update makes perfect sense, given how important the anime is to Cyberpunk 2077. The show was a huge hit when it debuted in 2022 and is credited with reviving interest in the game. CD Projekt Red celebrated with an update that added Edgerunners-inspired cosmetics that same year. So this new update is a continuation of that synergy.
And the game is still a massive earner for CD Projekt Red—it passed 40 million copies sold as of July 3, 2026. Development on the sequel, Cyberpunk 2, continues, with game director Gabe Amatangelo recently sharing how his vision for the project continues to evolve. While that sequel won't be out for a while, you can enjoy the new season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners right now.
So, will you be jumping back into Night City for Update 2.5? What feature are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments!
