Wolverine Update Lets You Turn Off Scent Trails

Ever felt like Marvel's Wolverine was holding your hand a little too tightly? You're not alone. The game's Scent Trails—those glowing breadcrumb lines that guide you to objectives—have been a hot topic among players. Well, Insomniac Games has heard your complaints and just dropped an update that lets you turn off some of those overbearing guardrails.

The new patch adds an on/off toggle for Scent Trails leading to Whisky Bottle collectibles. There's also a separate toggle for Nightmare Door Roots, which work like normal trails but are darker and point you toward metaphysical rooms containing Logan's suppressed trauma. Plus, you can now disable audio clues for Material Crates. These changes give you more control over how much guidance you want during side content.

But don't expect to roam completely free. Insomniac says "Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world." That means the main blue trail pointing to your next objective is always on. So if you were hoping to turn off all hand-holding, you're out of luck—at least for now.

This update follows a previous patch that already nerfed the scent trails, making them slightly "less intense." Fans have jokingly called them "fart trails," and the loudest conversation around the game has been about its perceived unwillingness to let players off the leash. Unbeatable quick time events and on-rails motorcycle sections also caught flack on social media.

Insomniac's community and marketing director, James Stevenson, says the developer will "continue to listen and work with the team to address feedback and requests." So it sounds like we haven't seen the last of Logan's smell-related updates.

Elsewhere in the patch, the team fixed a few bugs and crashes. For example, objects will no longer randomly turn all-white when you've been playing for too long. It's a small but welcome quality-of-life improvement.

Despite the criticism, Marvel's Wolverine is a commercial beast. Analyst estimates say it beat Death Stranding 2's entire lifetime PS5 revenue in just 3 days, selling 1.9 million copies. Not bad for a game that everyone loves to make fun of.
