Did you catch all the hidden details in the new GTA 6 trailer? We combed through every frame and found 33 interesting nuggets, from Jason's military background to a possible cryptocurrency parody. Let's dive in.
First up, Jason's past is fleshed out. We already knew he was ex-military, but a U.S. Army T-shirt reveals he trained at a combat school in North Fort Law—a location longtime fans will recognize as the military base from the very first Grand Theft Auto game. In that original, it was in New Guernsey, but here it's likely in the State of Alderney, the HD universe's version of New Jersey. Since Lucia is from Liberty City in the neighboring State of Liberty, maybe they met when Jason was stationed there?
The word "Marauder" is prominent on Jason's shirt, matching the skull-and-parachute tattoo on his arm. The Marauders are presumably his old unit, possibly a nod to the real-life Merrill's Marauders, a 1940s special forces group. Its modern equivalent is the 75th Ranger Regiment, so Jason was likely a ranger. But it seems he fell on hard times after leaving the army. "I got in some trouble in the army, didn't leave on the best of terms," he says in the trailer. "They don't give loans, anything, to people like me." No wonder he turned to crime—the cost of living is only going up!
Thankfully, Jason's military training seems to have prepared him well for a life of crime. We see him wading through water in special forces-style infiltration gear, night-vision goggles on his head and a silenced assault rifle in hand. He's with two other men, and they appear to have come from a boat. The blush night sky looks very Floridian—or should we say Leonidan—but an odd reptile to the left looks like a komodo dragon, native to Indonesia. Is this a flashback to Jason's army days, or is the reptile just a local? Maybe Jason called in former squadmates for a job.
Much of the criminal activity has a military feel. Later, Jason is on a helicopter in a bulletproof vest, looking very professional, joined by a dog—possibly a working dog. He also confidently disembarks a chopper and checks his rifle's chambered round. Small details, but they paint a picture of a deeply competent professional. Lucia may not have his training, but she adopts some of his tactics. A minute in, she's in special forces black with a Shrewsbury rotary grenade launcher, blowing up police cars while hanging from a cargo net. A few seconds later, a helicopter carries a similar net, so these shots are likely from the same mission—maybe she hangs from the net before or after it's dragged through a skyscraper.
The environmental damage is more detailed than anything in prior GTA games, with hundreds of glass shards erupting from a building. While this doesn't confirm Battlefield-like destruction, it shows how detailed Rockstar's demolition can be. And the scale is huge: Lucia leaps from a car onto a commercial liner, suggesting something on par with Trevor's airborne antics. This likely leads to the scene from the second trailer where she fights in a plane's hold as its landing gear deploys.
We also get a look at a heist. The bank job shows a vault we previously saw in an August screenshot, complete with burning bank notes and Lucia with a ponytail. She's joined by an anonymous character, so we won't be alone during heists. Later, she's with gunmen disguised as construction workers, hinting at crews of criminals. Will these be story characters or hired NPCs like in GTA 5? And there's a bi-plane flying over Vice City's beach with a "DacityCoin" logo—presumably a Bitcoin parody. Why is it so prominent? We can't wait to find out.
