Have you ever seen fan art so thirsty it made the developers blush? The team behind Castlevania: Belmont's Curse has, and they're totally here for it.
In an interview with Fall Damage, lead designer Sandro Bordier admitted that the horny fan art has already started pouring in. "It has started, it has started already – like, man, have we seen some things," he said. But Evil Empire isn't surprised. They know exactly what they're doing.
"Yes, like we know some characters are hot. It's a choice, actually. Like it's a vibe. We're pretty proud of it," Bordier explained. "Honestly, like, we were super happy with all the fan reactions regarding the characters that were revealed. Like we really put a lot of love from the team to design them in a way that would please fans."
The developers are thrilled not just with the spicy art but also with the overall positive response to the cast. Returning face Trevor Belmont has been a particular hit. Marketing director Bérenger Dupre noted, "Like Trevor especially, we didn't realise that it would be so well received." He then joked, "There should be a Game Awards for hot dads."
It might be too late for Hades, Cranky Kong, or Marcus Fenix, but Dupre added that seeing fan art is always fun because they know how much these characters mean to fans. "We are trying to make some new, fresh stories with them, so it's always quite stressful, and for now the reception is very, very emotional," he said.
And the game itself is backing up the hype. GamesRadar's review called it "a hugely compelling Metroidvania and a triumphant return for the iconic franchise," praising its enigmatic puzzles, gothic atmosphere, dramatic anime-esque storyline, and well-paced action. Its Metacritic score sits behind only the beloved GBA trilogy, Dawn of Sorrow, and Symphony of the Night as the series' best.
So, whether you're here for the gameplay or the hot dads, Belmont's Curse seems to be delivering. What do you think – should there be a Game Award for hot dads? Will you be picking this up?
