GTA 5 Modder Makes Hot Dog Vendors Work After 10 Years

A dedicated GTA 5 modder has finally fixed the game's broken hot dog vendors, allowing players to buy healing hot dogs from beach vendors. The mod also interacts hilariously with other mods.

GTA 5 Modder Makes Hot Dog Vendors Work After 10 Years

Ever tried to buy a hot dog in GTA 5? You probably couldn't. But one modder has finally made it happen.

In a hilarious and slightly unhinged quest to mod GTA 5 into a PC version of GTA 6 (or just break it entirely), a modder has filled a "yawning void in the soul of Los Santos" by making hot dog vendors actually work. That's right—you can now stroll up to the meat-slingers on Los Santos beach and hand over five dollars for a fleshy tube in a bun. And yes, it heals you, just like in real life.

Based on evidence, Rockstar probably intended the hot-dog-purchasing experience to work like it did in GTA 4. But for some reason, it didn't. Maybe the team was too busy working on horse testicles in Red Dead Redemption 2? Who knows. The important thing is: it works now.

But the real magic happens when this mod meets other mods. Thanks to a random-teleport mod, one moment you're handing over your cash, the next you're perched atop the not-Hollywood sign, lazily chowing down on your grub. Meanwhile, bodyguards from a celebrity mod keep manifesting in thin air next to you before plunging to their deaths. Does that interrupt your hot dog consumption? Nope. You just keep eating.

It's chaotic, it's absurd, and it's exactly the kind of thing that makes GTA 5 modding so great. The modder behind this daily project hopes that GTA 6, with its budget of "roughly Saddam Hussein's gold bullion reserves," will let players fully experience hot dogs from the start.

For now, though, this mod is a beautiful reminder of why we love GTA 5: even a decade later, you can still find new ways to mess with Los Santos. And sometimes, that means fixing what Rockstar forgot.

What do you think? Will you be picking up a hot dog in GTA 5 now?
