Modern Warfare 4 Won't Hit Game Pass Until Holiday 2027

Were you hoping to jump into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on day one via Xbox Game Pass? Well, we've got some bad news for you.

According to an official press release from the development team, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. In fact, you'll have to wait until "Holiday 2027" to play it through the subscription service—roughly a year after the game's initial release.

MW4 is set to launch on October 23, 2026, and you'll be able to buy it on Xbox from that date. But if you're relying on Game Pass, you're out of luck until late 2027. Exact timing within that holiday window hasn't been detailed yet, so mark your calendars for a long wait.

This might come as a frustration for COD fans who hoped Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard would mean day-one Game Pass availability for all future titles. Clearly, that's not the case here.

In the meantime, Game Pass still offers plenty of Call of Duty action. You can download a multitude of COD games, going all the way back to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from 2020. So there's no shortage of options to keep you busy.

And if you're open to trying something different, Battlefield 6 is also available for free on Game Pass. It's a great alternative if you just want an online military shooter to enjoy with friends.

So, what do you think? Will you be buying Modern Warfare 4 at launch, or waiting for it to hit Game Pass in 2027? Let us know in the comments!
