Ghost of Yōtei Sales Reportedly Hit 5.4 Million, $407 Million Revenue

Rumor: Ghost of Yōtei has sold 5.4 million copies and earned $407 million, according to Alinea Analytics. That's slightly behind Ghost of Tsushima's launch-aligned revenue.

Did you pick up Ghost of Yōtei when it launched last year? If so, you're part of what might be a pretty big sales story. According to a rumor from Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott, the open-world samurai adventure has reportedly sold 5.4 million copies and generated $407 million in revenue.

That's a lot of cash, but here's the twist: it's actually a bit behind Ghost of Tsushima. Elliott claims that Sucker Punch's previous samurai epic had sold almost seven million copies at the same point in its life, pulling in $418 million. So Yōtei is roughly 3% behind in revenue, despite the lower unit count.

Why the gap? Two reasons, according to the report. First, Yōtei costs $70 instead of $60, which means each sale brings in more money. Second, it's seen far fewer discounts since launch. So even though fewer copies have moved, the revenue is surprisingly close. That's a win for Sony's bottom line, even if the raw sales number looks smaller.

The game also reportedly sold 500,000 copies in the third quarter of this year, adding close to $30 million. Not bad for a game that's been out for over a year. And the Complete Edition? Almost 50,000 players have reportedly bought the $15 upgrade since it launched, generating more than $2 million.

Engagement seems solid too. Elliott claims Yōtei had 150,000 daily average players for two months before October 1st, and peaked at 327,000 when the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion went live. That's a healthy player base for a single-player game.

One thing to note: Ghost of Yōtei is only on PS5. Sony reportedly planned a PC port but scrapped it when the company returned to making its single-player titles console-exclusive. So if you were hoping to play it on PC, that dream seems dead for now.

Of course, all of this is unofficial. Sony hasn't updated sales figures, so treat these numbers as rumors for now. Still, if they're accurate, Yōtei is performing well and the expansion seems to be bringing players back.

What do you think? Are you surprised the revenue is so close to Tsushima's? Will you be picking up the Complete Edition or the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion? Let us know!
