Did you catch the hidden clue in Konami's Castlevania 40th anniversary video? At the end, Simon Belmont walks through Dracula's castle and passes four portraits—each showing artwork from a different game. Fans quickly noticed these are from Belmont's Curse, Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and the first Lords of Shadow. That's got everyone wondering: is Konami teasing a 3D Castlevania collection?
Let's back up. Castlevania has been pretty active compared to Konami's other big series. We got tons of collections re-releasing almost every mainline game, plus that hit anime. But the 3D entries? They've been stuck on their original consoles. We're talking about the N64's Castlevania and Legacy of Darkness, the PS2's Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, and the Lords of Shadow trilogy. None of them have been ported—until now, maybe.
The anniversary video ends with Simon walking past those four portraits before arriving at his surprise party. The portraits feature Belmont's Curse, Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and Lords of Shadow. Notably, Lords of Shadow was the only Castlevania produced by Hideo Kojima. Fans speculate this could mean a collection of these games is coming after Belmont's Curse launches on October 15.
But wait—some games are missing. Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness, and Lords of Shadow 2 aren't in the lineup. Is that just because Konami wanted to highlight the favorites? Or could the collection be incomplete? And let's not forget: this might not even be a teaser. It could simply be a fun nod in the party finale, since these games don't have 2D sprites to show.
Still, the 3D Castlevania games have their fans. Curse of Darkness, in particular, is beloved for introducing Hector, one of the series' most memorable characters. While they're not as iconic as Symphony of the Night or Aria of Sorrow, a collection would definitely make some players happy.
In the meantime, we have Castlevania: Belmont's Curse to look forward to—the first new mainline game in 12 years. It's set to release on October 15, and a demo kicks off the Halloween season in October, with save data transferring to the full game. So whether or not the 3D collection happens, there's plenty to celebrate.
What do you think? Is Konami teasing a 3D Castlevania collection, or are we reading too much into it? Let us know in the comments!
