PS6 GPU Possibly Leaked in AMD Driver Files

AMD's latest Adrenalin driver may have spilled the beans on Sony's next-gen PlayStation GPU, plus a possible Steam Deck 2 chip.

Well, this is a fun one. AMD might have just accidentally given us our first real peek at the PlayStation 6's guts — and a possible Steam Deck 2 chip, too.

According to a report from VideoCardz, AMD's Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver, which rolled out on September 29, was dug into by AnandTech forum user SixPie. What did they find? Three hardware codenames that haven't been officially announced anywhere: ATLite3, AT2, and Gainsborough.

Let's break that down. Leaker Kepler_L2 chimed in with their take, and it's pretty juicy. They believe ATLite3 is most likely the internal GPU for Sony's next-gen PlayStation — codenamed Orion. The naming actually lines up with how Sony did things last time: the PS5's GPU was known as Navi10Lite during development. So ATLite3 being the PS6's GPU? That tracks. Meanwhile, AT2 has popped up before in RDNA5 rumors, so it's probably part of AMD's next-gen PC graphics lineup.

But the codename getting the most attention is Gainsborough. Kepler_L2 speculates it's a custom APU for Valve's next handheld, the Steam Deck 2. And here's where it gets interesting — customs import and export records show that Gainsborough validation hardware with an FF6 BGA package (1179 pins) has been shipping out multiple times since late July. That means verification samples of the chip actually exist. This isn't just a name in a driver file; there's physical hardware floating around.

Now, before you start planning your PS6 launch-day campout, VideoCardz threw in a healthy dose of reality. All of this info comes from driver files and third-party leaks. AMD, Sony, and Valve have not officially confirmed that any of these codenames correspond to the products we're guessing at. It's all still speculation at this point.

Still, it's hard not to get a little excited. Driver leaks have a decent track record of turning out to be real, and the timing makes sense — we're deep enough into this console generation that next-gen whispers are starting to become actual rumors. A PS6 GPU and a Steam Deck 2 chip showing up in the same driver? That's a pretty wild combo.

So what do you think? Are you buying the ATLite3-as-PS6 theory, or is this just wishful thinking? And more importantly — how badly do you want a Steam Deck 2? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
