Ever felt like you're about to drop a big project, only to realize a massive event is happening the same week? That's the situation for the team behind the remaster of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, but they're not sweating it one bit.
While most games are dodging November like it's a radioactive lizard, this remaster is charging straight into the fray. GTA 6 is looming on November 16, but Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered stomps in on November 3. And here's the kicker: the devs didn't even think about GTA 6 when picking the date.
In an interview with IGN, senior designer Simon Strange from Pipeworks said, "Honestly, [it] wasn't even in our heads at all when we were picking the release date. That's not my business. I make the video games. I'm not too worried about when they come out." He added that if Atari had raised concerns about GTA 6 affecting sales, they'd have discussed it, but no one ever mentioned it.
So why November 3? It's not just a random Tuesday. That date marks the 1954 release of the original Gojira film—essentially Godzilla's official birthday. Strange called the timing "respectful," noting that Godzilla fans are so dedicated they'd show up regardless. "They'd buy it on any day that it came out, and putting it out on Godzilla's birthday, that's just respectful."
It's a bold move, but not entirely alone. Barbie Rewind, a collection of classic Barbie games, is also releasing near GTA 6. But only one game dares to launch on the exact same day as Rockstar's juggernaut: Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed, a "remaster" of a nonexistent remake, hits Steam on November 16.
So, will you be picking up Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered on its birthday, or are you holding out for GTA 6? Let us know in the comments!
