Did you ever think Minecraft would get a fourth dimension? Well, it's happening. Mojang has announced that the Sift is coming to Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027 — the game's first new dimension in over 14 years.
The reveal happened at Minecraft LIVE September 2026. The Sift had already been announced for the upcoming dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons 2, but now it's also heading to the main game next year. That makes it Minecraft's official fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, The Nether, and The End.
Mojang kept quiet on how the Sift will actually work in vanilla Minecraft. During the stream, they only teased how it will look — and showed off one of the mobs that calls it home. So don't expect gameplay details just yet. The official blurb confirmed the dimension is coming to Java & Bedrock Edition next year, and that it's the first new dimension in over 14 years.
If you want a taste of what to expect, look to Minecraft Dungeons 2. In that game, the Sift is described as "beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls." It features new biomes like the Meadow and the Carapace. Dungeons 2 launches September 29, 2026, so you can experience the Sift there first.
For context, Minecraft is still growing. More than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day, and the game has sold over 425 million copies across 17+ years. A new dimension is a huge deal for a game that's been around this long.
Mojang also teased new ways for creators to build and Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 during the broadcast. But the Sift is the headline. After 14 years of the same three dimensions, players finally get a fourth.
