What a day for chip stocks. On September 21, Wall Street went on an absolute tear, and the semiconductor sector led the charge in a way that had traders doing double-takes.

The Nasdaq jumped 2.26%, the S&P 500 climbed 1.49%, and the Dow added 0.71%. But the real fireworks were in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which rocketed 4.29% — its best single-day performance since August 4. If you held chip stocks, you probably felt like a genius.

AMD stole the show, rising about 10% to a fresh all-time high and crossing the $1 trillion market cap mark for the very first time. That makes AMD the fourth U.S. chip company to join the trillion-dollar club, and it now sits at number 16 among the world's most valuable public companies. Not bad for a company that was fighting for survival just a few years ago.

But AMD wasn't alone. Arm surged over 17%, its biggest one-day gain since April of last year. Intel popped more than 12%, its best day since May. Qualcomm climbed over 9%, also its strongest showing since May. It was a full-blown chip rally, and every major player got a piece of the action.

Meta was the other headliner, ripping 11.43% higher and adding over $190 billion to its market cap in a single session — roughly 1.29 trillion yuan. That's the kind of number that makes you blink twice. Optical communication stocks also got in on the fun: Astera Labs gained over 12%, Credo rose more than 6%, while Corning and Marvell Technology each climbed over 5%.

Elsewhere, Warner Bros. Discovery jumped over 10% — its best day since October of last year — riding the momentum of its acquisition deal with Paramount Skydance. Chinese ADRs mostly moved higher too, with the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index up 0.71%. VNET gained nearly 11%, ACM Research rose over 6%, while Tencent Music and Hesai Group each climbed more than 5%. GDS added over 4%. Not everything was green though — Li Auto dropped over 5% and XPeng slipped more than 1%.

Days like this don't come around often. The chip sector is absolutely on fire right now, and AMD's trillion-dollar milestone is a massive statement about where the industry is heading. Whether this momentum keeps rolling or cools off is anyone's guess, but for now, investors are loving every second of it.

What do you think — is AMD's trillion-dollar valuation justified, or is this rally getting a little too hot? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
