Cancelled Assassin's Creed Destiny Footage Leaks: China-Set Game Revealed

Ever wonder what a full-blown Assassin's Creed game set in ancient China would look like? Well, wonder no more – because footage of a cancelled project has just leaked online, and it's got everyone talking.

The game was called Assassin's Creed Destiny, and it was a collaboration between Ubisoft and Chinese giant Tencent. According to details dug up by MP1st, Destiny was set in China around 206 BCE – just nine years after the events of the upcoming mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade. Unlike Jade, though, Destiny was planned as a full triple-A experience for modern hardware, marking a grand return to Chinese history after Assassin's Creed Chronicles in 2015.

So what does the leaked footage show? Picture this: you're a stealthy assassin skulking through a palace during the Qin Empire. Your mission? Stop an invading army from swiping some kind of treasure. Things get bloody and messy, but you spend most of your time in the shadows, taking out soldiers and enemies one by one. The architectural layouts look ripe for exploration, and combat with swords and spears seems to have real weight. There's even a spinning blade – kind of like an umbrella – that looks like it would've been a blast to use.

Destiny was being developed by TiMi group, the same studio behind Jade, and it was only cancelled last year as part of restructuring at TiMi. We don't know how far along the game was, or if any of its ideas will make it into Jade. But seeing this footage gives us a glimpse of what could have been.

For longtime fans, this is a bittersweet moment. The Assassin's Creed series has a history of unrealized projects, and Destiny is just the latest to surface. It's a reminder of the ambitious ideas that sometimes never see the light of day.

Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed Jade is still in the works for mobile, first announced back in 2022. There's no release window yet, but at least we know that a China-set Assassin's Creed is still on the way – just on a smaller scale.

What do you think of the leaked Destiny footage? Would you have played a full triple-A Assassin's Creed set in ancient China? Let us know in the comments!
