Sony just pulled back the curtain on October's PlayStation Plus Essential lineup, and the reaction has been... spicy, to say the least.
The three games coming to the base tier are F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and the gloriously weird Earth Defense Force 2 under its full title Earth Again Turns Square?! Digital Block Earth Defense Force 2. On paper that's a racing sim, a hardcore extraction shooter, and a cult co-op bug-squashing romp. In practice? A whole lot of people are yawning.
Over on the player forums, one frustrated subscriber didn't hold back, calling it the most pathetic PS Plus month in history. Their complaint: none of the three games spark even a flicker of interest, and they wouldn't bother hitting the claim button. They even joked that the only thing stopping them from tearing into Sony was some good news about cheaper regional pricing landing at the same time.
Not everyone is grabbing a pitchfork, though. Some folks pushed back, arguing this isn't even close to rock bottom. Their pick for the true low point? April 2022, when Hood: Outlaws & Legends got paired with a SpongeBob game. Compared to that, they say, October looks downright decent. They also pointed out that F1 has a dedicated audience who'll happily jump in.
Others turned the question back on the original complainer, asking how many hours they've actually clocked on their PS5 before throwing around the phrase 'worst ever.' A few just shrugged and joked that this is the perfect month to save some hard drive space and skip the downloads entirely.
So where do you land? Is this lineup a genuine low for PS Plus, or are people overreacting? And more importantly, is there anything here you're actually planning to play? Sound off in the comments and let us know which of the three, if any, is getting a spot on your console.
