Ever feel like Deadlock's roster is missing something? You've got your draculas, your werewolves, your Frankenstein—but where are the mummies, the minotaurs, the gnomes in trench coats? Valve's occult shooter has a killer aesthetic, but it's overlooking some foundational cryptozoology. So, Valve, if you're listening, here are seven character concepts that would fit right into the Cursed Apple.
First up: The Summer Mummy. Deadlock already has a monster mash vibe, so a mummy is a no-brainer. But this isn't your average bandaged revenant—this guy's chill. He wears floral boardshorts, sunglasses, and eats ice cream (sand flavor, naturally). He first appeared in the Heathcliff comic strip on August 17, 2023. Imagine the cross-promotional potential!
Next, a minotaur who plays baseball professionally. No, it's not just because "bullpen" is a baseball term—though that's a happy accident. Picture a minotaur in an old-timey uniform, throwing a curveball that follows a labyrinthine path (call it a Daedalian Knuckleball) and a bull rush called "charge the mound." It writes itself.
Then there's the Loch Ness Monster's precocious preteen child. Nessie is already Deadlock canon, having arrived through the Bermuda Triangle astral gate. Her kid could be buddies with Rem, the adorable sleepspace creature. Plus, the microtransaction potential is huge—give the kid a lunchbox and sell skins with fictional licensed properties. Infinite money.
How about three gnomes in a trench coat? I don't have much to flesh out here, but I just think it'd be neat if they all had little guns under there. Maybe they're in the mob? A gnome mafia—the Cosa Gnomestra. Do your best, Valve.
A haunted suit of armor who is a boxer? Yes, please. Like the Summer Mummy, he needs some aesthetic work—boxing shorts and gloves should do it. Think a plate armor prize fighter that plays like the third-person MOBA-shooter equivalent of Little Mac. Sure, Deadlock has Lash and Bebop, but neither has cartoonishly big shorts.
Finally, big spider. There was an unreleased spider-themed hero in Hero Labs, but why half-ass it? Go full spider: let it walk on all surfaces, give it eight weapons for its eight limbs. Is it really a videogame if there isn't a large enemy spider? And yes, there's also a "sexy" big spider concept, but I can't take credit for that one.
So, what do you think? Which of these would you main? Let us know in the comments!
