Tired of PvPvE mashups yet? Normally, we'd be right there with you — but City of Heroes: Homecoming just made a pretty compelling case for giving the formula one more shot.
The fan-run server has rolled out Issue 28, Page 4, and it's a hefty one. Headlining the update is a brand-new PvPvE mode, which mixes player-versus-player combat with the classic player-versus-environment action the game is known for. If you've been craving a reason to jump back into Paragon City with a fresh challenge, this might be it.
That's not all, though. The update also brings new powersets to the table, giving you more ways to build and customize your hero. For a game that's built its entire modern life on the passion of its community, fresh powersets are exactly the kind of content that keeps altaholics busy for weeks.
And because timing is everything, Issue 28, Page 4 arrives alongside the game's Halloween event. That means spooky seasonal festivities are running at the same time as all the new toys — a nice little combo if you're looking to dive back in with friends.
For those who haven't kept up: City of Heroes: Homecoming is the well-known, well-respected fan-run revival of the classic superhero MMO. It's carved out a loyal following by consistently delivering updates like this one, long after the original game's official servers went dark.
So yes, we get the PvPvE fatigue. But when it's a game you already love, and the update lands with new powersets and a Halloween event on top? That's a lot harder to wave off.
Will you be logging in for Issue 28, Page 4, or are you sitting this one out? Let us know what you think.
