Control Resonant Patch Fixes Combat, But PC Players Face 92GB Re-Download

Did you pre-load Control Resonant on Steam, only to find yourself downloading the whole thing again? You're not alone. Remedy's launch-day patch has fixed some early criticisms, but it's caused a major headache for PC players.

Control Resonant launched today with generally positive review scores, but critics often pointed out that protagonist Dylan felt underpowered early on, and enemies took too long to defeat. Remedy took this feedback to heart. In the patch notes, the developer acknowledges "Dylan's overall combat strength early on in the game not feeling powerful enough (even if the man just woke up from a coma)." The patch reduces base health and stun times for most enemies, including the Dancer and Deserter boss fights. It also buffs maximum Aberrant and Ability strengths. According to Remedy, "We strongly believe these changes will improve the gameplay feel and flow while still providing a challenge."

Beyond combat, the patch makes respeccing easier by increasing the stock of "Reset Items" across vendors, and includes some UI updates. These changes aim to address the most common complaints and create a smoother experience.

However, the patch's release one hour before launch triggered an unexpected issue on PC. Players who had pre-loaded the game on Steam were forced to download the entire 92 GB again. Remedy addressed this on Twitter, saying: "This triggered certain platform mechanisms on PC, forcing players who had already downloaded the game to download it again, thereby causing you unnecessary inconvenience. This was an oversight on our part. We don't have an excuse, we would only like to sincerely apologise to everyone affected. We will learn from this experience and strive to prevent similar issues in the future."

It's a frustrating situation for those affected, especially after pre-loading to avoid launch-day downloads. But if the patch delivers a better gameplay experience, the extra wait might be worth it. Control Resonant's Metacritic score places it higher than its predecessor, though it can't touch 2026's top 20 bangers like Resident Evil Requiem and Pokemon Pokopia.
