Ever been in a Warzone match and spotted a Beavis or Butt-Head running around? If that breaks your immersion, we've got good news. Activision is adding a new Operator Skin toggle that lets you turn off all those goofy skins.
Starting with Season 1 of the upcoming Modern Warfare 4, you'll be able to flip a switch that makes you see only Modern Warfare 4 Operators. When the toggle is on, any Operator or skin from another Call of Duty game equipped by another player will be replaced with a Modern Warfare 4 Operator in your view. This applies to enemies, party members, and squadmates, both in the lobby and during a match.
Your own equipped Operator won't change, though. You'll still see the character you picked, even if it's from another game. And the toggle only affects your game—it doesn't change what others see. It'll be off by default, so you can opt in if you want that cleaner look.
Don't worry about losing your collection. Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 will remain available in Warzone starting with Season 1. That includes all the skins, blueprints, and camos you've earned or bought. Activision says, "The collection you've built remains yours to use, and existing plans for Carry Forward for previous titles are not affected with this update."
This move comes after years of complaints from fans who felt Warzone was getting too silly. The likes of Beavis and Butt-Head and American Dad hitting Black Ops 6—following weed-obsessed bundles starring Seth Rogen—had some players crying "Fortnite-ification" and begging for a return to mil-sim roots. Those complaints led to a U-turn for Black Ops 7, partly due to pressure from rival shooter Battlefield 6 and its commitment to "gritty realism." Infinity Ward even told fans to "keep the receipts" after promising to stay grounded with Modern Warfare 4 cosmetics.
So why not add the toggle to Black Ops 6? Activision explained in a social media post that it "required new tech that will only be available starting with Season 01." Better late than never, right?
As for weapons, all guns from Modern Warfare 2 through Black Ops 7 will still be accessible via the Legacy tab in the Loadout menu. However, Gunsmith functionality and prior Custom Loadouts won't be supported for legacy weapons or blueprints. Instead, each legacy base weapon will come with a five-attachment version, and any blueprint you own will keep its existing attachments. Activision's goal is for the weapon meta to feel "distinctly rooted in Modern Warfare 4" while preserving nostalgic choices. Raven Software will continue balancing weapons biweekly.
