GTA 6 Boss: PC Is "More And More Important"

Ever wonder if GTA 6 will ever come to PC? Well, you're not alone. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick just dropped a hint that PC is becoming a bigger deal for the company, and that could mean good news for PC gamers down the line.

At Take-Two's virtual shareholder meeting today, Zelnick said the company's approach is to release games "for any platforms for which there is a meaningful audience." He then added, "the PC is becoming more and more important to our company over time." Now, he wasn't specifically talking about GTA 6, but it's hard not to connect the dots.

GTA 6 is set to launch in November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there's no PC version at launch. That's nothing new for Rockstar. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 hit consoles first before making their way to PC. GTA 5 took about 18 months to arrive on PC, while Red Dead Redemption 2 came just about a year after its console debut.

So, if history repeats itself, you can probably expect to wait at least a year for GTA 6 on PC. But why the delay? Zelnick told Bloomberg that Rockstar traditionally launches GTA games on console first because "you're judged by serving the core [audience]." He also noted that when he joined Take-Two in 2007, PC sales made up only around 5% of NBA 2K sales. Now, for a big title, PC can account for 45-50% of sales. That's a massive shift.

Bringing GTA 6 to PC later could also create a second selling cycle, with some players potentially buying the game twice. "We'll see how it works out," Zelnick said. Former Rockstar developer Mike York previously theorized that Rockstar wants to "prioritize what sells," pointing out that PlayStation has historically been the biggest seller.

In other news, Rockstar just announced GTA 6: The Album, and unlike the game itself, it will be available on a disc. So, while you wait for that PC version, at least you can spin some tunes.
