Nolan North Would Return as Nathan Drake, But With One Condition

Ever wondered if Nathan Drake could ever make a comeback? Well, the man behind his voice, Nolan North, is totally up for it—with one big catch.

At Gamergy in Puerto Rico, North said he'd "110%" return for a new Uncharted game. "I absolutely would. I try to stay in shape just in case. I can't see a scenario where I would say no," he explained. He even thinks it would be a massive business move for Sony: "It would be the biggest announcement in gaming. I don't think that's hyperbole."

But there's a caveat. North wants to make sure Naughty Dog doesn't tarnish the series' legacy. He compared it to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull—a film that many fans felt didn't live up to the original trilogy. North doesn't want Uncharted to have its own Crystal Skull moment.

He also clarified that he hasn't heard anything official about a new Uncharted game, but he's keeping hope alive. "I always keep out hope," he said. And why wouldn't he? He loved working with Naughty Dog on the four main Uncharted games, which is a big reason he'd come back.

Rumors about Uncharted 5 have been swirling. According to multiple sources, a fifth mainline game is supposedly Naughty Dog's next project after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is reportedly due in 2027. A third The Last of Us game could follow. Intriguingly, the report mentions Nathan Drake would appear in some capacity.

Uncharted 4 was positioned as the definitive end for Nate's story when it launched in 2016, but Naughty Dog has repeatedly hinted they're not done with the franchise. When Uncharted 5 might release is anyone's guess, but it's more likely to arrive on the PlayStation 6, given that Sony is expected to launch its next-gen console around 2028.
