World of Warcraft Forever: What We Still Don't Know

Did you catch the World of Warcraft Forever reveal at BlizzCon? If you're like us, you walked away intrigued—but also with a head full of unanswered questions.

Over at MOP, Justin and I are pretty much on the same page about what we saw. We both play our games in very different ways, sure, but our initial take on the BlizzCon showing is nearly identical: it looks very interesting. That part isn't in doubt.

What is in doubt is everything else. The demo raised more questions than it answered, and we're not just talking about minor details. There are lingering questions that hang over the whole project—the kind that make you hesitate before letting yourself get too excited.

One big one: has the hurt actually subsided? The phrasing in the original piece is telling. "I don't know if the hurt has subsided"—that's not a small thing. It suggests there's still some emotional baggage attached to the franchise for longtime players, and a shiny new expansion reveal doesn't automatically wipe that away.

So while the initial assessment is positive—it looks very interesting—that's not the same as saying everything is fine. There's a difference between being intrigued by a trailer and being ready to commit again. And right now, we're firmly in the intrigued camp.

The fact that two people who play the game so differently can agree on that first impression says something. It means the appeal isn't niche. Whatever World of Warcraft Forever is shaping up to be, it's catching eyes across playstyles.
