FF7 Revelation Could Be 200GB, Might Force You to Delete Games

How many games are you willing to delete for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation? If a new interview is anything to go by, you might need to clear a lot of space.

According to a September 18 VGC interview with game director Naoki Hamaguchi, the file size for Revelation will "probably" be around 200GB. That's massive—so big that Hamaguchi admitted the game won't fit on one, two, or even three discs. "In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it's probably going to be around 200GB of game," he said. "I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent."

To put that in perspective, a base PS5 has about 667GB of usable storage. If you own games like The Elder Scrolls Online, Ghost of Yotei, Infinity Nikki, or Mortal Shell 2—many of which are 100GB or more—you're already playing a storage Tetris game. Adding a 200GB RPG means something's got to go.

But here's the good news: Hamaguchi knows this is a pain, and he still wants to give you a physical release. "One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we're in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product," he continued. "That was really important to us. Trust me!" So even if the disc can't hold the whole game, Square Enix is committed to giving collectors something to put on their shelf.

We still don't have an official file size—the game doesn't launch until April 8, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. But we do know it could take about 100 hours to finish, and there are two post-launch expansions starring Vincent and Sephiroth that may be as big as Remake's Intermission DLC. So yeah, Revelation is going to be enormous.

If you're like me, you're already eyeing your library and wondering which games to sacrifice. Maybe it's time to finally finish those backlog titles before Cloud and Sephiroth take over your hard drive. Or maybe you'll just buy an external SSD. Either way, the hype is real—and so is the storage struggle.

What do you think? Will you be deleting games to make room, or are you waiting for more details? Let us know in the comments!
