What if your D&D party could trade swords for lightsabers and take on the Empire? That's exactly what Wizards of the Coast is cooking up. At New York Comic Con 2026, WotC finally pulled back the curtain on its next Universes Beyond release for Dungeons & Dragons, and it's a Star Wars crossover. The first product is an adventure called Star Wars: Tyro Squadron, and there's also a new Core Rules expansion set in the galaxy far, far away.
We first got wind that something Star Wars was coming to D&D back at Gen Con in July, but now we have official confirmation. Tyro Squadron will let you "take the fight to the Empire as part of a secret Rebel crew," according to Wizards of the Coast. The story unfolds during the Original Trilogy, running parallel to Luke and Leia's own battles. You'll fly daring missions, explore new corners of the galaxy, and help shape the Rebellion's story. That's a pretty different vibe from your typical dungeon crawl.
Just like Star Wars: Zero Company earlier this year, this campaign seems to focus on the seedier side of the Star Wars universe rather than the big heroics of Luke and friends. It's a smart angle, honestly. Not every group wants to be the chosen one; sometimes you want to be the scrappy crew pulling off jobs in the shadows while the main characters are off doing their thing.
Of course, Star Wars is a strange fit for D&D at first glance. How do you work blasters and lightsabers into a traditional high-fantasy TTRPG? That's the big question. But WotC already proved it can handle wild crossovers with the World of Warcraft expansion, which was huge in scope and packed with story hooks and new ways to play classic classes. If they can pull that off, a galaxy far, far away might just work.
The new Core Rules expansion for Star Wars will likely be similarly ambitious, though we don't know any specifics yet. WotC is keeping those cards close to its chest. The Tyro Squadron adventure module itself also has very few details beyond the basic premise. So don't expect a full breakdown of mechanics or classes just yet.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a while for more. Wizards of the Coast says it will share additional information about the Star Wars expansion at Star Wars Celebration in April 2027. That's still a ways off, but at least we know when to expect the next reveal. Until then, speculate away about how a Jedi might work as a D&D class.
What do you think? Are you excited to roll dice in the Star Wars universe, or does the crossover feel too weird? Let us know in the comments.
