Did you miss out on the Xbox X25 controller pre-orders when they first went live? Well, you're in luck. The throwback gamepad is back in stock at major retailers just in time for next week's launch.
Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Xbox all currently have the translucent green controller available for pre-order. The Anniversary controller is priced at $79.99, though Walmart has it for just $79 – a whole penny cheaper! Shipping is set for October 20, which is the full Anniversary release date. If you go with Best Buy, note that this later run of stock won't be available for in-store pickup.
The Xbox X25 controller takes us back to the golden age of gaming with its translucent green design and full-color face buttons. It's not a new gamepad – it's the same Xbox Wireless Controller Microsoft bundles with every console – but collectors and fans of that '90s tech aesthetic will definitely want this on their shelves.
When stock originally ran dry back in August, it was only a matter of time before these green grips returned. While the console itself is a numbered limited edition and incredibly hard to get (priced at $899.99), the controller is more widely available as a 'special edition' item. That gives Microsoft more flexibility for another manufacturing round if demand outweighs supply.
We could still see more Xbox X25 consoles hit shelves before next week's launch. As payments bounce and early pre-order folks get cold feet, retailers often list new stock of hard-to-find devices in the days leading up to release. Many successful order holders are already reporting that payment is being taken, so keep an eye out over the weekend.
Let's be real: most of us aren't thrilled about dropping $900 on a limited edition console. That's where the X25 controller comes in. It's a neat nod to gaming history and a vibe all by itself. You don't need to spend a grand to remember how Xbox used to be – a fresh gamepad carries its own charm.
So, will you be picking up the Xbox X25 controller? Or are you holding out for the console? Let us know in the comments!
