Ever spent way too long in a virtual supermarket aisle wondering which brand of pixelated cereal to buy? Well, GTA 6 won't make you do that. But you might have to stop for gas. Let's break down the latest details from Rockstar.
In a recent interview with Famitsu (translated by GamesRadar), Rockstar's Rob Nelson spilled the beans on a feature that got the chop during development. Jason and Lucia were originally supposed to buy groceries and restock their fridge. Yes, you read that right โ a full grocery system. But Rockstar decided it was too realistic for their vision of balancing "realism and ease of play."
Nelson explained, "At one point during development, we were experimenting with a system that would allow you to buy groceries to restock the fridge. We had specifications for stores with groceries that you could buy and take home, and the fridge could be replenished. However, because this would have complicated the mechanics, we had to simplify it."
So no grocery runs, but that doesn't mean GTA 6 is shying away from realism. In fact, you'll need to keep an eye on your car's fuel gauge. YouTuber TGG, who got a hands-on look at the game, confirmed that you'll have to pull up to gas stations to refuel or recharge your EV. It's not expensive, takes about 10 seconds, and has its own animation. You can also repair your car there.
TGG also mentioned that Nelson acknowledged this refueling system might be divisive among players. But Rockstar is sticking with it, and it's all about strategy. Before a big robbery โ a key money-making activity โ you'll want to make sure your ride is topped off for a quick getaway. In GTA 5, cars had unlimited fuel by default (unless your tank got punctured), so this is a significant change.
This new focus on survival and maintenance ties into the game's weight system. You can gain weight by eating too much, hit the gym to bulk up, and your physical appearance and stamina will reflect your choices. It's all about creating a more immersive, living world.
GTA 6 hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. With preorders reportedly hitting $2 billion, it's already a massive success. The base game costs $80, while the Ultimate Edition is $100. Will you be picking this up? And are you on board with the fuel mechanic? Let us know!
