Blizzard has increased the WoW: Forever Beta population cap again after overwhelming demand, with devs calling it the craziest numbers in 17 years.

WoW: Forever Beta Hits Another Population Cap Bump

Ever tried to log into a beta and found yourself stuck in a queue? That's been the reality for many World of Warcraft: Forever beta players. The demand has been so intense that Blizzard has had to raise the population cap not once, but twice.

After the big reveal at BlizzCon 2026, the beta went live and almost immediately broke servers. Senior game designer Josh Greenfield said he was seeing 'the craziest numbers I've seen in 17 years working at Blizzard.' The team's fix? Simply increase the population cap. And over the weekend, they had to do it again.

Executive producer and VP Holly Longdale shared the news on X: 'So… we had to increase the WoW: Forever Beta population cap again. The wild ride continues.' She didn't specify whether it was for EU or US players, but it's likely both, given the global interest.

Even at a cost of at least $59.99 to access, fans are flocking in. The initial launch was a bit of a debacle itself—senior game producer Tom Ellis called it 'a bit excessive' as countless players struggled to get in. But now, the beta seems even more popular than before, with Blizzard actively raising the cap over time.

Why all the hype? The devs describe World of Warcraft: Forever as an edition for 'the millions of people who have had their accounts lapse' in Classic. It's resonating not just with lapsed players but also with newcomers. Our own writer spent all weekend in the beta and says it gives old-school fans nearly everything they could want.

It's a good sign for the MMO's future. With servers bursting at the seams, Blizzard is clearly struggling to fit everyone in—but that's a problem any game would love to have. The wild ride continues, indeed.

What do you think? Will you be jumping into the WoW: Forever beta, or are you waiting for launch?
