Nintendo Repair Prices Jump: Switch 2 Motherboard Costs Nearly as Much as a New Console

Nintendo Japan is raising repair prices for Switch and Switch 2 from November 16 due to higher parts costs. The Switch 2 motherboard repair jumps to 37,400 yen, close to the price of a new OLED Switch.

Nintendo Repair Prices Jump: Switch 2 Motherboard Costs Nearly as Much as a New Console

Did you ever think fixing your Switch could cost almost as much as buying a new one? Well, that's exactly where we're heading. Nintendo Japan just announced that repair prices for both Switch and Switch 2 are going up, and the motherboard is taking the biggest hit.

The change kicks in on November 16, 2026, for repairs arriving at Nintendo's service centers from that date onward. The reason? Rising component costs. Thanks to the AI boom, memory prices for RAM and SSDs have skyrocketed, and it's not just PCs feeling the pinch—game consoles are getting hit too. All three major console makers have already raised prices to cope with the shortage, and now the repair side is following suit.

Let's break down the damage. The standard Switch motherboard repair was 14,300 yen and is now 24,200 yen. The OLED model jumps from 16,500 to 26,400 yen. And the Switch 2? That goes from 27,500 to 37,400 yen—about NT$7,679. To put that in perspective, a Switch 2 motherboard repair now costs roughly the same as a brand-new OLED Switch did before the price hikes. Ouch.

It's not just motherboards, though. Screen repairs and other parts like input components, external interfaces, and speakers are also seeing modest increases of around 1,000 yen or so. Compared to the motherboard's massive jump, those feel almost gentle.

So what does this mean if you're in Taiwan? Switch repairs there are handled by Weblink International, and unlike Japan, there's no publicly listed flat rate—prices are usually quoted case by case. But with Japan raising the bar, it's hard to imagine the rest of the world staying unaffected for long.

For now, the advice is simple: if your Switch is acting up, you might want to get it looked at sooner rather than later. And if you're in Japan, the November 16 deadline is one to mark on your calendar. After that, your wallet might feel the sting.

What do you think about these repair price hikes? Will you be rushing to fix your console before the new rates kick in? Let us know in the comments!
