Ever wonder how an anime studio makes a video game city feel like a real place? For Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2, Studio Trigger literally went sightseeing in Cyberpunk 2077 with a virtual camera to find the best spots in Night City.
Showrunner and creator Bartosz Sztybor told GamesRadar+ that the animation team hunted for "great spots to fit into the story." And he's happy to let them take the wheel. "That's the great thing about Studio Trigger. They're huge fans of the game," he said, admitting, "They know the city much better than I do."
That trust shows up in his scripts. Sztybor says he never names specific locations, because he knows the studio will do the legwork. Director Kai Ikarashi, he figures, "behaved like Roman" — the camera-wielding newcomer in season 2 — roaming Night City in-game and scouting spots that suit the story. "So what is funny is [that] I don't put places in the script because we know that Studio Trigger will find something perfect," he explained.
Season 1 already gave us recognizable haunts like Afterlife, Tom's Diner, and Megabuilding H4 brought to life on Netflix. Season 2 sounds like it's going even deeper, with players potentially able to point at exact street corners and precise storefronts from the dystopian city.
If you've put time into Cyberpunk 2077, you know that pull. After a recent replay, our own take is simple: it's hard to want to leave Night City — one-way trip to the moon aside. Soon we'll get to hang out there again with a new crew of chooms: Weak Kingsley, Roman, Talia, and D.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 hits Netflix on October 20. Need something to watch before then? There's a preem guide to the best anime on Netflix waiting for you.
Will you be rewatching season 1 before the new episodes drop, or jumping straight into season 2?
