Can you imagine a brand-new Uncharted game starring Nathan Drake? Well, so can the man who plays him — and he's more than ready to jump back in.
Speaking at a panel at Gamergy in Puerto Rico in late August, Nolan North was asked whether he'd reprise his role as the wisecracking treasure hunter. His answer was about as enthusiastic as it gets: "110 percent, absolutely." And he didn't stop there. "I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it," he said. "It just depends if Sony wants to make money."
That last line is a spicy one, especially with Sony currently making headlines for killing off physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in 2028 and apparently u-turning on bringing its single-player games to PC. North, though, kept it simple: he'd be there in a heartbeat. "I absolutely would," he said. "I try to stay in shape just in case."
He also admitted he's heard nothing official. "I always keep out hope. I haven't heard anything, but, you know, it is a business, and my god, can you imagine if they did?" He went even further, saying a new Uncharted would be "the biggest [announcement in] gaming," adding, "And I don't think that's hyperbole. I think that's true."
Here's the wild part: North said all of this before recent rumors surfaced that a new Uncharted game is in the works at Naughty Dog — one that's reportedly set to feature Nathan Drake in some capacity. It's been claimed this new installment (not a remake) would be the studio's next game after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
If that's accurate, don't hold your breath. Intergalactic was initially unveiled at the 2024 Game Awards, and it was recently confirmed that the game will get its proper reveal at some point next year. So any new Uncharted would be a long way off. Still, for fans of Drake's fortune, North's enthusiasm is a pretty great sign.
Would you want a new Uncharted with Nolan North back as Nate? Or is it time for the series to move on? Let us know in the comments.
