Game Freak Ends Beast of Reincarnation Updates After Just Two Months

Did you just start playing Beast of Reincarnation? Well, you might want to savor it—Game Freak is already moving on. The Pokémon developer has announced that its post-launch update cycle for the action RPG is "coming to a close" after one final patch.

In a post on X, the studio thanked players for engaging with the game and revealed that the next patch, planned for October 19, will be the last in this phase of major updates. After that, there won't be any more frequent updates or big patches. However, you can still submit feedback through the support website if you have thoughts or issues to share.

It's a swift farewell for a game that only launched in August. Beast of Reincarnation had a rough start, with "Mixed" reviews from critics and players. The director himself publicly apologized, saying he was "truly sorry" that the game hadn't "provided a sufficiently enjoyable experience" for fans. Despite various updates—including one that addressed some of the biggest pain points—the game's rating never significantly improved.

On Steam, it still sits at "Mixed" overall, though recent reviews are "Mostly Positive." That's a small uptick, but not enough to change the narrative. Game Freak hasn't given a reason for ending updates so soon, leaving fans to speculate. Was it the lukewarm reception? The studio isn't saying.

For those who picked up the game, the final patch will be available on PlayStation 5 (version 01.012.000), Xbox Series X|S (1.1.1.0), and Steam (1.1.1.0). Make sure your game is updated—updates download automatically when you launch, but if you're mid-session, save and restart. You can check your version in the bottom right corner of the title screen.

It's a bit of a sad ending for a new IP that tried something different. Game Freak is known for Pokémon, but Beast of Reincarnation was a chance to branch out. Unfortunately, it seems the experiment didn't pan out as hoped. The devs promised fixes, delivered some, but ultimately couldn't turn the tide.

So, what does this mean for you? If you're still playing, you have until October 19 to enjoy the final major update. After that, the game will remain as is, with only support tickets for feedback. If you were waiting for more content, it's not coming. Will you still jump in, or is this a sign to skip it? Let us know in the comments!
