Ashly Burch Is Obsessed With Slay the Spire 2, Wants More Messy Characters

Ever wonder what the voice of Aloy fires up on her Steam Deck when she's off saving the world? Turns out it's Slay the Spire 2, and she can't stop playing it.

Ashly Burch, the actress behind Horizon's Aloy, Life is Strange's Chloe, and Tiny Tina, is currently obsessed with Slay the Spire 2. She opened up about what's living on her Steam Deck, and the deck-building roguelike is clearly eating up her free time right now.

But Burch didn't stop at her current gaming binge. She also shared a pretty spicy take on the state of video game writing: there are way too many stoic characters, and she wants more "shitty little bitches." Honestly? She might be onto something.

Think about it. How many leads do you know who keep it cool, stay calm under pressure, and barely crack a smile? Burch is basically saying she's tired of that archetype and wants more messy, complicated, and yes, sometimes downright unlikable characters. The kind who make bad decisions, blow up relationships, and feel like real people instead of untouchable heroes.

That tracks with the roles she's known for. Chloe Price in Life is Strange is a walking disaster in the best way, and Tiny Tina is chaos incarnate. Even Aloy, for all her heroics, carries plenty of rough edges and emotional baggage. Burch clearly gravitates toward characters who aren't polished to a shine.

For anyone who's played Slay the Spire 2, the obsession makes sense. The first game was a genre-defining roguelike deck-builder, and a sequel is exactly the kind of thing that swallows entire evenings. Hearing that a voice acting heavyweight is grinding runs on her Steam Deck just makes it feel more relatable.

It's also a nice reminder that the people who bring our favorite heroes to life are gamers too. They get hooked on the same addictive loops we do and have strong opinions about how stories should be told. Burch using her platform to call for more flawed, chaotic protagonists is the kind of push the industry could use.

So what do you think? Are there too many stoic leads in games, or do you like your heroes cool and collected? And more importantly, are you picking up Slay the Spire 2 anytime soon? Let us know in the comments.
