New Witcher Book Coming by 2027, But Will Geralt Return?

Get ready to return to the Continent, because a brand-new Witcher novel is officially in the works. According to foreign reports, Andrzej Sapkowski himself announced during Poland's annual fantasy event that he aims to finish writing a new book set in the Witcher universe by the end of 2027.

Now, before you mark your calendars, there's a catch. Just because Sapkowski plans to wrap up the manuscript by late 2027 doesn't guarantee the book will hit shelves that same year. Printing and publishing can always throw a wrench in the works. And for English-speaking fans, the wait will likely be even longer—reports suggest the English version could be delayed by about a year.

Sapkowski's last novel, Crossroads of Ravens, came out in 2024, with the English edition arriving last year. That one was a prequel, focusing on Geralt's teenage years and his departure from Kaer Morhen, bridging the gap to the earlier short stories. So if you're wondering whether this new book will be a direct sequel, don't hold your breath.

In fact, Sapkowski has been pretty clear about Geralt's future. Back in a 2011 interview with The World of Fantasy magazine, he stated that Geralt's main story arc was already complete—but he also said he could always return to the Witcher world. So while this new novel probably won't be a direct follow-up, it also means we don't have to worry about it conflicting with the games' storyline.

Speaking of the games, there's plenty happening on that front too. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a remastered version that launches on September 29 as a free update for existing owners. It's coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. That's right—if you already own the game, you're getting the upgrade for free.

But wait, there's more. The development studio is also working on a brand-new expansion called Songs of the Past, which is currently planned for a 2027 release. So between a new novel and a new expansion, Witcher fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
