Ever wondered what Osaka looked like during World War II? RGG Studio just dropped a new trailer for Stranger Than Heaven, and it's taking us back to Minami, Osaka, in 1943.

The studio describes this period as one of "immense turmoil." With the war raging on, modern architecture and contemporary trends are starting to dominate the cityscape. People are being exposed to new cultures, but at the same time, language and expression are facing increasing scrutiny. It's a strange mix of progress and pressure.

But here's where it gets interesting: show business is on the rise. The latest trailer highlights a theater—one of the largest in the city—though there are several others. The glamor and glitz are exciting for locals, but competition is fierce. And naturally, Makoto Daito, the showman who organizes musical performances, will be right in the thick of it.

Beyond the bright lights, the trailer also gives us a peek at the backstreets and alleys. You'll find vendors selling all kinds of goods, and at least one of them deals in weapons. That could be a spot Makoto frequents to make sure he's properly armed at all times. Sounds like a wise move in a city full of turmoil.

Stranger Than Heaven is set to launch on January 15th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The game follows Makoto across five different eras, and we've now seen three of them. Two more remain: Atami in the Shizuoka Prefecture in 1951, and Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1965.

RGG Studio is clearly building out a rich, time-spanning narrative, and we're here for it. The mix of historical detail and personal drama is shaping up to be something special.

So, what do you think of the 1943 Osaka setting? Are you ready to see how Makoto navigates the world of show biz and the back alleys? Let us know in the comments!
