What if you could go back and fix the most hated storyline in Warhammer Fantasy history? That's exactly what Total War: Warhammer's Lords of the End Times expansion offers.
For just $9 (£7.49), you can now play Immortal Empires by purchasing any character from the Lords of the End Times expansion—Boris, Thanquol, Nagash, or The Glottkin. Previously, you needed all three games, then just the third installment. This new entry point makes the massive campaign more accessible than ever. Note that this version doesn't let you play everyone, but it's a cheap way in.
The End Times were notoriously unpopular in Warhammer Fantasy lore. How do you end a setting with 30 years of characters and stories? The answer, according to fans, is not well. Beloved figures died off-screen, were reduced to mere mentions, or had their established lore upended. The expansion's genius is letting you rewrite that fate.
In one campaign, you can play as the Fay Enchantress, who was sacrificed to resurrect Nagash in the original lore. Instead, you can fight your way to his Black Pyramid and crush him in a climactic battle. Revenge is sweet. Want Karl Franz to beat The Glottkin? Grimgor to defeat Archaon? Kill Mannfred over and over? You can do all that and more. The expansion lets you subvert The End Times endlessly.
A major part of this fantasy is the long-awaited endgame scenarios. After 10 years, Archaon finally has a proper Chaos invasion, and it's terrifying. The Everchosen rallies every Chaos-aligned lord and is functionally immortal until you destroy his invasion fortresses. Every settlement he razes stays razed until you defeat him, putting you on the clock to stop the world from becoming a hellscape. There's also the Great Ritual of Nagash and the Skaven Vermintide. You can even activate all three at once for the most loreful version of The End Times, or become the endgame yourself as Archaon.
This is the cherry on top of Immortal Empires, the biggest and best Total War campaign Creative Assembly has ever made. And it's not the end—Creative Assembly is still working on campaign AI and factions like Bretonnia need a rework, but more characters, units, and campaign support are promised.
With 3,212 hours in the trilogy, I'd say $9 is a great value for what I consider the greatest rendition of Warhammer Fantasy's world in a game. Will you be picking up the Lords of the End Times expansion? What lore would you rewrite?
