After the death of lead writer Pablo Lamprea and a copyright issue, the surreal horror FPS-RPG Divine Frequency finally hits early access on October 27.

Divine Frequency Early Access Launches October 27 After Tragic Loss

Remember that one demo that scared you so badly you had to take a break? For me, that was Divine Frequency. This surreal horror FPS-RPG absolutely terrified me while also delivering satisfying action. I've been waiting for its full release for what feels like forever.

Finally, we have a date: October 27 for early access. Developer Abraxaes dropped a new trailer on September 25 confirming the launch. But getting here was far from easy. Back in March, the team shared some heartbreaking news: lead writer Pablo "Artistical" Lamprea had passed away unexpectedly.

The demo's writing was something special—cosmic horror in the vein of SCP, mixing dry categorization with lush, expansive prose. It left a mark on me, and I've wanted more for almost three years. I'm so glad Lamprea's collaborators carried on to bring their shared dream to life.

That wasn't the only hurdle. In 2025, the developers discovered that some sound libraries they'd purchased contained copyrighted material. To avoid legal trouble, they had to painstakingly comb through every audio file and replace the infringing ones. "This also delayed the game by a fair margin," Abraxaes wrote.

Despite the setbacks, the team is committed to quality. "You only get one chance to launch a game," they said in their March update, "and this needs to be pristine on launch." They also revealed that early access will include the first two of three planned acts—about 70% of the full game.

I'm not usually a fan of playing games in early access, but a 70% chunk sounds substantial. After so long away, I'm eager to dive back into that awful, unsettling world.

Ahead of early access, you can wishlist Divine Frequency and try the updated demo on Steam. Will you be braving the cosmic horror on October 27?
