Ever find yourself drawn back to a horror series that both thrilled and frustrated you? That's exactly where I am with Remothered. The games are cult classics—some find them insufferable, others inspired. I'm stuck in between, loving the antique perversions but hating the convoluted storytelling. Yet I can't resist Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy, launching later this month, because the talent involved is simply too good to ignore.
Red Nun's Legacy features legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, and the Red Nun enemy is voiced by Resident Evil alumna Maggie Robertson. Their involvement elevates the game's darkened glamour. Yamaoka's industrial grooves are as irrefutable as Mt. Etna's lava in the distance, while Robertson's take on Lady Dimitrescu made fans delirious—expect the same frenzy with her Red Nun stalker.
The latest trailer, which premiered during the Horror Game Awards showcase, revels in the weathered stone buildings and marble fountain angels of the game's Sicilian setting. Stormind Games' developers are based in Sicily, so recreating the island's decaying decadence was like catching a dream upon waking: you may not remember every detail, but you know the smells and feelings because you lived through them.
A statement to press explains, "The Sicily that Stormind Games recreated in Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy is the Sicily the team has always lived, seen, breathed. This trailer is a visual journey through the real places, textures, colors, and cultural details that shaped the world of Red Nun's Legacy, stemming directly from the memories of those who developed it." It looks as gorgeous and imposing as a ballet school built by Dario Argento.
But so did the original 2018 Remothered game Tormented Fathers and its 2020 sequel Broken Porcelain, and I don't love them as much as I wanted to. The storytelling often got in the way of the horror. Still, with Yamaoka and Robertson on board, I think Red Nun's Legacy could become a true classic—no "cult" necessary.
Mark your calendars: Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy is out on consoles and PC on October 27, and it's coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 3. Will you be picking it up? What do you think about these horror legends joining the series? Let us know in the comments!
