Were you hoping to stream GTA 6 to your PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming on launch day? Bad news: Microsoft says that's not happening.
The clarification comes after a report from The Verge claimed Xbox had secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6. That got PC players pretty excited, since Rockstar still hasn't announced a PC version of the game. But Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball took to social media to set the record straight, saying the buzz around GTA 6 and Xbox led to some inaccurate reporting. "While the excitement for GTA 6 and Xbox is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting," Ball said. "We are looking forward to launching GTA 6 on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
So there you have it: no cloud loophole for PC players on November 19. You won't be able to fire up Xbox Cloud Gaming and roam Vice City without a console. The original report had suggested a streaming deal could be a big win for PC fans who are still waiting for any word on a PC release. It also followed comments from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who reportedly told employees that Microsoft was preparing to do something with GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing." That mystery move apparently isn't a streaming exclusive.
GTA 6 is officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has yet to announce a PC version, so PC players remain in limbo about when they'll get to play. The streaming rumor would have offered a workaround, but that door is now closed.
The timing is interesting, too. Xbox Cloud Gaming is going through some changes in November, including a new pay-as-you-go option and adjustments to cloud gaming time across Game Pass tiers. So even if GTA 6 were streamable, the service itself is shifting.
For now, PC players will have to wait for Rockstar to make a move. Will you be picking up GTA 6 on console, or are you holding out for a PC version? Let us know in the comments.
