Logitech's Yeti 2 Mic: AI That Actually Helps, Not Hype

Ever feel like AI is being shoved into everything, whether it makes sense or not? Well, Logitech's new Yeti 2 microphone is here to prove that sometimes, AI can actually be a game-changer—not just a buzzword.

Remember the Blue Yeti? If you've been around the content creation block, you definitely do. Logitech bought Blue back in 2018, and now they've finally released the Yeti 2, a follow-up that's packed with machine learning baked right into the hardware. At first glance, it looks, smells, and sounds like a Yeti—which is a good thing. But the real magic is in its OLED screen, customization options, and ML-powered features like voice following and noise reduction.

I got to test it at Logitech's G Play event in Warsaw this week, and I walked away impressed. The voice following mode uses a combination of voice detection and head-detection (via a sensor that Logitech insists isn't a camera and doesn't store facial data) to adjust the mic's pickup pattern on the fly. You can literally see the cone of pickup moving to follow you on the screen. And the noise reduction? I was in a busy room with tons of chatter, and level 1 eliminated almost all of it. Level 2 wiped out everything while keeping my voice full. Level 3 cut some frequencies, so stick to 1 or 2.

There's also neat clipping detection, represented by a little Yeti character on-screen. You can even create custom pixel art to show when you're speaking too loud or too close. The mic is omni-directional by default, but you can adjust the polar pattern almost at will. And with G Hub software, there are tons of customization options, but it's also plug-and-play thanks to the screen's default modes for music, podcasting, and more.

Now, the price: I was expecting sky-high, but it's $160/£140. That's still expensive, but well within the high-end USB mic bracket. Given how useful the AI features are, it might just be a worthy iteration of the classic Yeti. We've waited over a decade for this, and it seems like Logitech didn't disappoint.
